is a sector that is very important in the context of the blue economy of maritime countries. Indices indicate that in many countries, the maritime and water transportation sector ranks very close to oil and gas extraction and tourism in terms of Gross Value added (GVA) to the economy, and is proven as a very important sector for SME development and employment generation. Activities such as warehousing, boat making, dry docking, ship yard works and similar transport activities provide employment for millions of people.

What It Consist Of:

Maritime and water transport sector consist of two main parts; Water transport services and port operations.

Water Transport

Water based transportation is often the most cost effective connection between the in-land and sea areas of the coastal regions.

Ports and Harbours

Ports and harbours provide the space for ships and sea going vessels to dock and berth for loading, off-loading , fueling (bunkering) and for stocking of provisions and supplies for crews. Maritime and water transport is impossible with out ports and habours. The port and harbour sub-sector also includes shipyards and boatyards for building and maintenance of ships, vessels, and boats.
